As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local government affairs, Rock Island Today has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Colona. We are seeking a comprehensive list of businesses registered with the city over the past week. The requested information includes essential details such as Business Name, Business Number, Business Type, Business Address, Issued Date, Status, and Registered Agent Name.
This request is made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, with a preference for receiving the data in electronic format. As members of the media dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, we emphasize that access to public records is crucial for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Our role involves holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the community we serve.
We have also requested a fee waiver based on our status as media professionals. This aligns with our efforts as part of The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy—a non-profit organization assisting media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental actions through Freedom of Information and Sunshine Laws.
